San Juan, San Juan Province, AR
Veladero is a high-altitude gold and silver mine in Argentina's San Juan Province, part of the mineral-rich El Indio Gold Belt in the Andes and operated by Barrick. The mine uses heap-leach processing to recover metal from ore and holds gold reserves estimated at around 10 million ounces. In 2007 it became home to the world's highest-altitude wind turbine, installed at close to 4,200 metres above sea level as part of the site's power supply.
