Thunder Horse sits in the Gulf of Mexico roughly 240 km southeast of New Orleans, producing from one of the largest semi-submersible platforms ever built. Operated by BP, the field has been in production since 2008 and has undergone major expansion in subsequent years, pushing gross capacity past 400,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day. Continued subsea tie-backs and infill drilling have kept it one of the most productive deepwater assets in the Gulf.
