Rosebel
Brownsweg, Brokopondo District, SR
Rosebel is an open-pit gold mine in Suriname's Brokopondo District near Brownsweg, in a part of the interior where gold has been worked since the 19th century. Commercial production began in 2004 under Rosebel Gold Mines, and the operation has at times accounted for roughly half of the country's recorded gold output. Since February 2023 the mine has been wholly owned by Zijin Mining Group, which took over full ownership from previous operator IAMGOLD, and it continues mine-life extension work alongside a joint exploration venture at the nearby Pikin Saramacca project.
