North Field

Lying offshore northeast Qatar near Ras Laffan, the North Field is part of a single geological structure shared with Iran's South Pars field and covers more than 6,000 square kilometres, roughly half the land area of Qatar. First identified in 1971 and confirmed over the following decade as the world's largest non-associated gas reservoir, it holds upwards of 900 trillion cubic feet of gas and underpins Qatar's position as one of the planet's leading LNG exporters. QatarEnergy continues to expand processing capacity at the field through successive development phases.
