Musselwhite
Thunder Bay area, Ontario, CA
Musselwhite is an underground gold mine roughly 500 km northwest of Thunder Bay in Ontario's Kenora District, reachable mainly by chartered air service given its remote setting, and has operated continuously since opening in 1997. It ranks among Canada's larger gold mines, with reserves that have historically exceeded two million ounces and a cyanidation and carbon-in-pulp circuit achieving around 96% gold recovery. It was the first Canadian gold operation to sign on to the International Cyanide Management Code and runs on a fly-in, fly-out rotation.
