Mount Keith
Leinster, Goldfields, WA, AU
Mount Keith is a large open-pit nickel mine near Wiluna in the Goldfields region of Western Australia, operated by BHP as part of its Nickel West division. Built on a nickel sulphide orebody within the ancient Norseman-Wiluna greenstone belt, construction got underway in the early 1990s with first ore shipped in 1995, and the pit has since grown into one of the bigger nickel mining operations in the state. It processes substantial tonnages of lower-grade ore at scale, a profile that once led analysts to view it as a potential major contributor to world nickel supply.
