Kearl is an oil sands mining operation located northeast of Fort McMurray in Alberta's Athabasca region, majority-owned and operated by Imperial Oil alongside ExxonMobil Canada. Spanning roughly 200 square kilometres, the site has been producing bitumen since 2013 and now targets around 300,000 barrels a day, supported by a fully autonomous haul truck fleet. In 2026 the operation passed one billion cumulative barrels produced, and its proprietary froth treatment technology delivers pipeline-ready diluted bitumen without needing an on-site upgrader.
