Jwaneng
Jwaneng, Southern District, BW
Jwaneng is Debswana's flagship diamond mine in Botswana's Southern District, set in the Naledi River Valley since its discovery in 1972 and full commissioning in 1982. Though not the largest by tonnage, it is routinely ranked as the world's richest diamond mine by value, producing around 12.7 million carats a year of exceptionally high-quality gems that generate the bulk of Debswana's revenue. The operation mines three kimberlite pipes formed roughly 245 million years ago and continues to extend its pit toward depths of 800 metres and beyond.
