Collahuasi works one of the largest copper deposits on the planet from high-altitude pits above 4,400 metres in Chile's Tarapacá region, with ore concentrate piped 203 km to the company's own port terminal south of Iquique. Jointly owned by Anglo American and Glencore alongside a smaller Japanese partner, the operation ranks among the world's half-dozen biggest copper producers, turning out well over 500,000 tonnes of fine copper annually. About half of its roughly 5,000-strong workforce is drawn directly from the Tarapacá region.
