Carajás is Vale's flagship iron ore complex in the Carajás mountain range near Parauapebas, Pará, in Brazil's Amazon region, long regarded as the largest iron ore mine on the planet. In operation since 1969, it draws on reserves exceeding seven billion tonnes of high-grade ore, moved by dedicated rail to Atlantic ports and powered in part by hydroelectricity from the Tucuruí dam.
