Búzios sits about 200 km off Rio de Janeiro in the ultra-deep pre-salt layers of the Santos Basin, beneath water depths exceeding 1,900 metres. Discovered in 2010 and brought onstream in 2018, it has grown through a fleet of large FPSO vessels into one of the world's biggest deepwater oil developments, with Petrobras reporting combined output above 1 million barrels of oil a day. Newer units such as the P-79 FPSO continue to be added to sustain that record-setting production.
